David Rhys-Jones was a gifted Carlton Footballer who won the Norm Smith Medal in 1987 playing on Centre Half Forward Dermott Brereton. He has been inducted into the Carlton Hall of Fame.
He began his VFL / AFL career in 1980 playing for South Melbourne which went to Sydney in 1982. He move to Carlton in 1985 and finished his AFL playing career in 1992 after 182 games. He then captain coached North Launceston in the Tasmanian Football League finishing with his 50th game winning the Grand Final in 1995. He returned to coach Frankston in the VFA for 3 years.
David then focused on a media career but was drawn back into a couple more coaching stints and even played another game. He has a biography.
David Rhys Jones is perhaps best remembered as a physical player who had many visits to the tribunal.
